Monthly Goals - MAY 2016

Eating better
Cook healthier meals useing a variety of meats and vegetables, as well as making sure
we have a selection on tropical and garden fruits on the go at all times.

I aim to buy almost no processed foods apart from perhaps the odd sauce jar. I want my little family to eat as close to nature as possible.
By the end of summer I want to be able to say we eat clean 90% of the time.
The occasional pizza or takeout is going to happen and thats ok, its all about moderation.

I cant help but feel our bodies would run better if we ate well and ate a good mix of foods.

...

Living more frugal
I have an addiction. A shopping addiction. Its a real thing and I have it.
I have a problem that I need to manage better. Every month I spend hundred and hundreds on myself on things I do not even need or will use.
We are talking hair extensions, costume wigs, expensive clothes, make up, accessories, bath products.
Its becoming an issue and I am tired of living this way.
I was brought up in a low income hosuehold, I always worked hard and wanted better out of life, but this has gone much to far.

While its lovely to have all these wonderful things I am starting to wonder if I would appriciate it more if I were to treat myself "now and again" rather than every other day.

So here goes. For May I am cutting right back and looking to change this spending pattern.

...

Reading more
My wonderful partner bought me a kindle as one of my chirstmas pressies and I have hardly used it as I just havent been in the mood for reading. So this month I plan on reading serveal books that I paid for a while ago that I have been meaning to read.
...

For me this month is all about self improvment.
What are your goals this may?

And if you dont keep goals let me know why?

Id love to hear! :D

Planning a romantic evening at home - Setting the mood & the menu

Set the Mood in the dining area:

Candles
This may seem somewhat over done and perhaps a little cliche even, but nothing
sets the mood for a cosy night more so than little warm flickering flames.

Now I am sure you have a beautiful collection of Yankee candles and love a good excuse
to burn one up but perhaps think of plain candles instead of scented on this occassion. Strong
smells can be a little sickly over dinner and as wonderful as your sugar cookie scent smells,
perhaps the dining room / living room are not the place while you eat... On the other hand,
the bedroom would be perfect for them tonight!

Instead, perhaps opt for pillar candles? Not quite as formal and forbidding as the long dinner candles but add plenty of height and dimension. Also these make a fantastic relaxed tabble centre piece.
If you want to go all out, surround them with seasonal leaves or fruits.

Cushions and throws:
In my oppinion these are a must have if dining or retiring to the living room. The pillows add comfort and focal points that can make or break the room, and the throws add texture and warmth. I personally enjoy opting for fluffy throws with a shaggy texture, they scream cuddle up.

Use the good cutlery and plain plates
There is something very chic about plain white or plain one colour plates/bowls. We have assorted plates in my home, and for an everyday meal, the hand painted yellow and blue plates are quite alright. If I were planning a nice meal, had guests or were after a look a little more formal I would opt for my plain white plates and bowls. I also add lots of shapes into the mix in the way of serving plates, and always serve meat joints on a wooden board. Baskets of chips and dips are beautiful served on slate plates.

Music
It doesnt have to be all classical or love songs... Personally if I ever had to hear "Hero" or "If youre not the one" ever again it will be too soon. Just make a light playlist of slow songs to have on quietly in the background.

A few of my go tos:

Queen - Barcelona     ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDGubnE3Fus )
Robbie Willaims - Things   ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC2_tdYG-rk )
Frank - New York     ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUrUfJW1JGk )

You get the idea...
Dont put too much thought into it, just go for relaxing or feel good songs you love. I tend to lean towards swing than anything else. Everyone has there own style.

Setting the mood in the bathroom

(if a bath together is on the cards)

Extend the music into the bathroom, a bluetooth speaker is ideal for this if kept away from water.
Maybe up your playlist to something more sensual at this point, just background noise.

Have candles lit, or better still, use LED flickering candles, always safer in bathrooms I think and you can leave them unattended if you need to make a dash to the bedroom for some unknown reason .......................

Use a lovely bathbomb or melt. A bubble bath or bar if the mood strikes for bubbles (BEWARE if you have a jet bath DO NOT even consider a bubble bar unless you want to loose your other half under a mountain of bubbles forever!) This is also a great time to pull out a massage bar if you have one.

Adding rose petals to the water just adds class I think. Have some fresh roses in a vase in there too for a natural sweet scent.

Fluffy towels and robes are essential if you are taking the bath option, although you may choose to slip into some silk short pjs or something to keep the sensual spirit alive.

Setting the mood in the bedroom

If you opted for the romantic bath then leave roses out of the bedroom. Too much can be overkill. If you really feel the need for flowers then opt for some pretty white one, white carnations are pretty.

Make the bed beautifully with extra cushions and throw blankets for comfort and wow factor. Make sure the room is clutter free so you minds can be purely on eachother, and not the laundry.

A few glass jar yankee candles wouldnt go badly in here, just make sure they are in a safe place where they wont get knocked over.

Place a tray on the bed, fill with chocolates, fruits, champagne and glasses. And if you have chosen flowers, a few scattered over it wouldnt be a bad touch, but avoid petals on the bed sheets.

The menu

I tend to choose 3 courses and keep them as easy as possible.

Starters
The starters I make ahead of time or I have been known to buy pre -made now and again.
I keep this light and normally steer clear of soups and salads if im honest.

The ideal starter I would choose would be Sushi style wraps.
I buy these pre-made from supermarkets and manage to get them made with meats rather than fish.
(BBQ pork, sticky chicken and hoisin duck)
I serve these on a plain small dining plate, drizzled with soy sauce and each plate has a mini folden paper crane on.

Main Course

In this case I would have it all prepared and "kept warm" Or just have a few touches to add and its done. I dont want to spend half an house in the kitchen 5 mins is quite enough.

To achieve this I normally go for one of two options:
Mixed grille
a combination of chicken breast, steak, sausages, gammon, eggs, onion rings, and more.

Or I would go for
Pulled gammon
served with panini breads, cheeses, salads and fruits.
I serve as a buffet style on wooden platters.

Dessert

For this I either choose something quick, like a icecream sundae or opt for a crumble I made in advance. Takes only moments to have ready and done.

Just keep the menu simple so you are not running round all over the show.

Lets here your ideas of a romantic evening home!? Id love to hear! :D

Sunday 17 April 2016

My mini spa break at the Marriott hotel Portsmouth

It was around 9pm on a wednesday night when me and my friend Amii decided we fancied a mini spa break away.
Now, I am quite impulsive by nature and very impatient... So we ended up booking one for the next day and spent the rest of our night rushing around packing, ready to set of early the next morning for a long drive.

We went for two nights, which gave us full access to the gym, sauna, steam room, pool and hot tub. So we were quite happy with that and planned on getting some treatments while we were there.

We arrived in Portsmouth around 12pm and went for a little shopping trip before we went and checked in at our hotel. Typically, dispite writing a list I forgot my swimming costume and other essentials, so ended up buying a new swim dress and other essentials (extra shoes, underwear, cardigan... I am not a very good packer apparently.)

We checked in the hotel Marriott just before 3pm and made our way up to our room.

We had a little explore round our room and made ourselves at home. Then we made the very big mistake of laying on the bed, and both fell asleep for a couple of hours...

Waking up a few hours later, we decided to head of to a Toby calvery for a quick roast dinner,a nd boy did we pig ourselves. Feel slightly bloated we headed back to the Marriott and got changed to go swimming.

The pool wasnt busy, so we dominated it, swimming around and floating in the water, not a care in the world. Eventually made our way into the hot tub for a good hour to just let the bubbles massage the day away.

We got ready back in our room and spent the night in the sealevel Cocktail bar. Having scrumptious cocktails made before our eyes with fresh fruits and an array of alcohol.

We chose a strawberry and chocolate face mask with cleansing detail, and tried very hard to eat chocolate but opening our mouths was difficult as the clay masks were so hard. Once The face masks were off we headed right to bed.

Day two begins with us waking around 9am and getting ready quickly before the maids come round. We headed off to Southampton for a shopping day, I of course being the utter bimbo I am kept forgetting what it was called or where I was. (Even as I am writting this I yell to my partner, Ryan, "Where did I go again??") I am not a dumb woman, but sometimes...SMH.

So yes, we ended up in a huge multi story shopping centre with a food court at the top. Nothing like anything we have in Hastings. We were thrilled to be surrounded by clothes shop and I was very taken with Accsessorize and their vintage radio style bags and scented tangle teezers. I wanted to buy about 20 bags but settled on one from Oasis, its a super cute navy mini satchel. Amii got herself some burgundy jeans she has been after for a while, and all was right in the world.

For lunch we wanted to try something new, and passed many places we had never tried. After staring at a Yo Sushi bar and the little dishes go round for a few minuites...

 We settled on Eds Diner.

The food was fantastic and came to £40 for a chicken burger and chips each, a bowl of onion rings and two of the best milkshakes we will ever have in our lives.

We headed back to the Marriott, which was a 45 min drive away from Southampton and after such a busy morning and a pretty hefty food coma - Amii fell asleep again and I went for a bath.

A few things me and Amii discovered during our stay - fridays are a LOT more glamourous than weekdays. They roll out a red carpet (litterally) and the hotel is buzzing with guests dressed like they are fit for the Oscars, adorned with sparkling diamonds, Rolex and knocking back champagne like its water.

Of course, me and Amii chose that time to walk through the lounge dressed in our finest leggings and tshirts, hair bunged with no makeup on, ready for a swim.

On the other hand, all eyes were on us... some women must have spent best part of 3 hours and thousands of pounds to look that way, and we just rolled on by getting all the attention. Go us right?

We made it down to the spa pools and treated ourselves to a hot tub session. Ending up spending a good hour chatting to some OTT rich men with high fly jobs, while me and Amii chatted about our mundane work-day lives in the glam world of caring and insurance.

Earlier on we had made a VIP reservation at a club called TigerTiger. By day a beautiful place in the "posh part" of Portsmouth for customers to dine and look over the docks. By night a multi room theme bar/club.

The tiki room

The 90s / Naughties disco room - Wonderland

Then of course there is the Jewel Lounge

You just keep going wherever you are in the mood for, the music changes from room to room as does the drink menu. Its pretty crazy.

So we headed off to tesco a few hours before we were due to go out to grab some essentials and ended up coming back with new outfits, boots, bags and KFC... Like you do.

We got all beautied'up and grabbed a cab to TigerTiger.

We got there at 9 as our reservation was fairly early, and we started on the cocktails. Its was a wild night to say the least and we didnt get back until 4am or later. The hotel staff greeted us at the door as we rolled in drunk, all last nights dresses and carrying our shoes.

Day 3 we both woke up up a bit hungover, so we packed up, checked out the hotel and headed to KFC for an early lunch. After that we made our way to New Forest before we headed home.

Come and tell me about any mini breaks you have been on? Id love to hear some stories :D

Spring cleaning checklist from clutterbug :)

Found on Clutterbug.me

These are a few of my favourite things...

LUSH products!
The bubble bars have to be my faves, that said I use the conditioning bars and shampoo bars exclusively, so they would be the items I couldnt go without.
What I love about them (apart from be beautiful colours and smells!) Is that they go really far for your money. I bath in Lush products every night, its one of my little luxuries I dont want to hav eto be without.
Every night I run a bath, crumble a little bit of bubble bar in and maybe a hint of shower jelly and there you have it.
One bubble bar normally lasts me 6 baths, so they are totally affordable.
I dont really bother with the bath bombs as much as I did, nice as they are I find £4 a bomb a little much for one use. I prefer buying other things like lip tints, face masks and tooth care items for those prices. Maybe I am just tight, but its how I manage to afford bright bubbly lush baths every night of the week.

Kinder - the best chocolate in the world
I dont care if these are for kids, they are my all time faves. The chocolate is so milky and the hippos have that hazelnut cream in. If you live in the US I think this brand is banned over there... for being too delicious. No, but seriously, its because toys come in the eggs and children could choke on them or something. Me and my bestie STILL collect kinder toys everytime we hang out and compete over who got the best one. Ahh to be young and free.

Planners
The Happy Planner by MAMBI (me and my big ideas)
I am rather crazy about them. I have a little shop that sells stickers for them too which is pretty cool.
It great for keeping on track and keeping up with tasks.
I use mine for work hours, meal planning and as a calender.
Planner keeping is much more popular in America than it is here in the UK, so we dont have big stores that stock these, best bet is to find them on amazon.

Method
These beautiful eco friendly cleaning products are
taking over my life at the moment. You can find them in
places like tesco for around £3 a bottle.
They make handwash, air fresheners, washing up liquids and
so much more.
A whole blog post just about these on the way!

Directions hair dye
Already mixed so no fuss needed. Can be mixed
top make your own shade or added to conditioner for a lighter colour.
Fantastic for mermaid hair colours. Last a good amount of washes and
the white toner works perfectly. Just a few pounds online, cannot be beaten.
I love these even more than stargazer!

There you have it, A few things I just love right now.

Going Eco friendly with METHOD products

So I have found some products that I adore. I love the colours, I love the fresh natural smells and I love that its non-toxic.

Not only do Methods products contain non toxic chemicals but the packaging is also earth friendly by being produced using a 100% recycled plastic, this resulting in a brilliantly green trifecta: less waste in landfills, less energy needed to make the resin and beautiful bottles. Method have also thought about what happens to their products packaging once they are empty by selling refill pouches.

Now, Method products are not the cheapest on the market by any means, a bottle of anti bac will cost you around £3 BUT I have found that they last for weeks and weeks and are worth every single penny.

They do a very large range now and I want to be using them exclusively soon.
At the moment I am loving the all purpose cleaner, air freshener and the washing up liquid.

I almost find them collectable, The bright colours and beautiful smells make them a beautiful edition to any home cleaning kit.

10/10 beyond all doubt.

Moon Rock bubble bars! DIY bubble bar Lush inspired

I made these bubble bars today using stars and glitters to extra sparkle.
These I have named "Moon Rock" due to being the colour of a night sky
and a rock-like texture.

When in the bath the water turns a beautiful bright blue, look in close and
you will see specs of sparkling far away galaxies and and shooting stars
just floating by every so often.

These were made for sensitive skin and my recipe contains special ingredients
for skin soothing and no irritation.

These have a beautiful sweet orange scent and makes the whole bathroom
smell like chocolate orange.
