The Paper Crane - Wedding Traditions

The Japanese regard the crane as a symbol of good fortune and longevity because of its fabled life span of a thousand years. It also represents fidelity, as Japanese cranes are known to mate for life.
It is said if you fold 1000 paper cranes, one for each year of its life, the crane will give you one wish.

It is a tradition for these paper cranes to be used at weddings, not only do they mean everlasting love, but they also can make pretty beautiful table decor, favours and venue decorations.

Here are some examples of how these beauties can be used around your wedding.

So how to actually fold a paper crane?

5 things you can do overnight to wake up feeling beautiful every day

Leave on a face cream overnight, while you are busy sleeping your face is getting a treat. No effort required to wake up with beautiful skin.

Drink a glass of water before you go to bed. Not only will this hydrate you, but water also has toxic clearing benefits and acts like a natural cleanser.

To wake up with perfect waves, Damp your hair ever so slightly with a styling spritz or water. Plait your hair of twist it into a hair band and get some sleep. In the moring take them out and you will have beautiful waves with next to no effort.

For a pampering overnight treatment, apply Vaseline to the soles of your feet and put on socks before you sleep. The socks help keep the moisture in your feet and you’ll wake up to soft soles.

Switch to a silk or satin pillow case. Cotton ones cause hair breakage, which leads to frizzy and messy hair. Also, if you lay awkward on your pillow then cotton will promote wrinkles.

Babysitting in a box? Keeping children occupied so you and your partner can have an indoor date night.

I can imagine it must be difficult for parents to find a moment to themselves for a date night. Once you have children they dominate all areas of your life.

I used to work in childcare managment and trained to become a nursery manager, so I do know a thing or two.

You cant always get a babysitter but you need to get the kids happy, tired and ready to g to bed at a sensible time for you and your partner to be able to enjoy a date night in.

This is why I have thought up "The baby sitter in a box".

The idea of the box is there are lots of activities inside to keep your children entertained, happy and help them use up any extra energy.

The box is ideal to be given to your child in the afternoon just after an early dinner.
Interact with them for a while and make a big deal out of the box, so they get very excited for it and look forward to seeing what is inside. This is a very important step.

Inside this box its good to put things in the following catagories inside.

Creative:
Playdoh and plastic cookie cutters.
Lego and ask your child to build something simple like a "house".
If your child is older, consider a bead making set and let them create jewellery.

Choose one of the above or something similar. Put everything you need for it in the box. Remember to praise your childs work and let them have a little prize for after. (perhaps a new toy from the poundshop wrapped up? It doesnt have to be expensive, just let them feel valued and keep the fun going.)

1) Active:
Play a game of musical chairs
Play a game of twister
If you have a garden maybe do some running or skipping

With this section choose two games and keep them going until your child is getting tired. Thsi part is important as it will help get rid of that extra energy.

2) Snacks:
Ready some snacks for your child. Sweets and chocolates are not a good idea, as the idea now is to try and calm them down a little. Perhaps consider some cheese scones? Or something heavy like that. Anything high in sugar will keep your child up.

3) Calming:
Colouring pages (google and print?)
Let them play with their new toy they won
Anything soothing, pop it in your box ready.

End with tucking them into bed with a short story.
Your child has had a lovely evening and you now have time for a lovely night.

Hopefully now it will be arounf half past 7 and you have all evening with your partner to focus on just the two of you. Wine, chocolates, film and a takeaway?

Get a cosy home this autumn and winter 2015

Invest in a fluffy rug. Nothing says cosy quite like curling your chilly toes up into a fluffy rug edge. They can change the whole look of a room. No matter what the colour I wouldnt skip this step. You can pick them up for beteen £15 - £30 if you shop around online.

Throws draped all over look so welcoming. After being out in the cold festive shopping or coming home from work, how nice would it be to walk through the door and sink back into the sofa while pulling over a blanket?

Tarten always adds a classic cosy look. I also am a big fan of the knitted look throws. I plan on having both this year.

Add some candles. Yes, yes and yes! A cosy home needs candles. Those little flickering flames add a cosy glow all over your room. Perfect used with dim lights. I love these as coffee table centres.

Think fur. Warm and soft faux fur. I will be throwing fur blankets over chairs and stools this year. Its cheap enough online and really adds to the decor.

Set your TV to show a firplace if you dont have one. Its so relaxing to hear the fire crackle in the background while reading a book and it creates the illusion of being warmer. Its a win-win.

Invest in some scented Yankee candles. They do some lovely winter scents every year to flavour your home in vanilla cookies and frosted berries.

Boy a bulb for your lamp that isnt as bright as you would normally have. Keeping a light glow gives a warmer illusion around your home.

In the kitchen be sure to buy some lights for by your window. I like indoor net lights that just dangle down. Its pretty fun shopping around for new tea towels, oven gloves and kitchen decor in the winter. I will be going to red this year.

Fill your bathroom with candles and towels, fluffy bath mats and warm shade hand towels. It will warm the bathroom right up.

In the bedroom I add extra pillows and throws to the bed for added warmth. This year I will also be adding a fluffy rug into the bedroom too and a few candles.

Door way, hall way or outside are a great place to just add little nick nacks like wreaths or door mats.

And there you have it, a cosy home everyone will be envious of!
